About EDFA

EDFA stands for the:

  • "European Down and Feather Association", or
  • "Association Europeéne des industries de plumes et articles de literie", or
  • "Verband der Europäischen Bettfedern- und Bettwarenindustrie e.V."

On 11 November 1980, nine firms from eight countries took the initiative in Amsterdam and founded the registered society.

The founding president was Mr Robert Fleet (Great Britain) and the managing board member was Dr. Karl Pracht (Germany). Today Mr Jan Kuilema is the president and Dr Juliane Hedderich the managing board member of the EDFA. The honorary president is Mr Ib Fagerlund.

EDFA has grown rapidly since its foundation. The originally nine firms have grown to more than 90 by the year 2009. Today associations and companies from twenty-three countries are represented in the EDFA.

As can be seen from the directory of members, currently associations and firms from Germany, Brazil, Bulgaria, Denmark, Great Britain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine and Hungary are organised in the EDFA.

The goal of the association's work is to persistently and consistently represent the interests of the members of the bedfeather industry, the feather-filling industry, their suppliers (machine industry, chemical industry, ticking industry and testing institutions) in Europe.

EDFA members cultivate a very active exchange of opinions amongst each other. Current issues are discussed in working groups established precisely for this reason and solutions are developed.

Through its circular service and the regularly held meetings, members receive topical information through the Association office. Other information on EDFA services may be seen under "Services Offered".

The Association is represented by the Board and by the Manager. The Office is located at Thomas-Mann-Strasse 9 in 55122 Mainz. The association was entered into the Register of Associations, Local Court of Mainz, Register No. 2557
